Lecture on nano technology
Elina Melteig Held a lecture in the auditorium about her studies at the UiO, and explainer generally about nano technology and what we can expect to see in the future og nano science.
Nano technology exists everywhere in nature. Some plants have waterproof leaves, Geckoes can walk up a wall, and everything is nano. Now that people discover nano, and start experimenting with it, we can look forward to many exciting inventions over time.
In 2006, IBM sat a new world record in chip speed. Scientists at IBM and Georgia Tech managed to tune a chip into going at speeds as far up as 500GHz. Elina Melteig says nano technology in this field may be very close, and then we can suddenly expect speeds up to 2THz using nano wires consisting of a combination of germanium and silisium. Just think of where computers were fifty years ago, she says.
